Hi! I thought you might like to know a bit about me and how I arrived in Louisiana. Here goes:
I was born and raised in Massachusetts, graduated from a small high school in Norwell, and then attended Brandeis University. Against the wishes of my parents, I married between my second and third years of college (much too young!) and transferred to the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. I had promised my parents that I would finish school, so with one young daughter and pregnant with twins, I received a degree in chemistry.
We moved to eastern Massachusetts, where I had my fourth child and adopted my fifth and youngest child. A few years later, my marriage ended and I worked at a few jobs, including teaching chemistry for a year, and then bartending. When all my children were in school, I started medical school at Tufts University in Boston.
My whole family was very supportive throughout this time. During my last year at Tufts, my Mom succumbed to colon cancer. Shortly afterwards, my Dad moved with me and the children to Connecticut, where I did my Ob/Gyn residency at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. I remained in the area, first joining an established practice and then branching out on my own when it grew to be too large. Along the way I met and married Ken Jovin. He’s very supportive; with his encouragement I learned to ride a motorcycle and also got my license to fly. Ultimately, I sold my practice to Bristol Hospital, but after five years of hard work, my compensation was severely reduced and I could no longer stay in that practice. I sadly left a wonderful group of patients and joined a friend in practice in Covington, Louisiana.
Unfortunately, that position lasted just over a year. Another gynecologist was to join me in starting a practice limited to gynecology only; but Hurricane Katrina intervened and he left the state. Now I was on my own! Having never actually started a practice, it has been slow going and fraught with many mistakes. I am now in the very first office that I have owned, in a great location, and am seeing many new patients. Hopefully, you will soon join that group!
I enjoy seeing healthy women once a year and helping them to stay healthy. My goals are focused on prevention: getting them on healthy diets and good exercise programs and encouraging them to quit smoking. I want my patients around for many years! I do all office gynecology, so since I am no longer called out for deliveries or surgeries, I am in the office for all your appointments.
I can be reached at 985-674-4434. My office is conveniently located in Mandeville, next door to Benedict’s Restaurant, at 1120 North Causeway Blvd.
Hope to see you soon,
